Profile: Joseph Pulitzer

This profile would not be possible without the work of Jim Palmer from St. Louis, who has researched and written extensively about Pulitzer.

  1. Speaking of Jim Palmer, have you ever profiled Jim Palmer, the Hall of Fame 1970s pitcher?

He apparently had a "Jewish" last name as a kid (I want to say "Wiesenthal" or something similar, but there's two stories on it I've read:

    1) Father Jewish, abandoned him young, took on last name of stepfather, never raised Jewish at all

    2) Adopted by Jewish parents but never raised Jewish.

  2. Hmmmm. Interesting. Looks like adoptive father is Jewish (Moe Wiesen), the father died, and the mother married Max Palmer (assuming not a Jew). Confirmed here:

"My mother was Catholic, my father was Jewish. [...] My dad loved sports, but he thought that was a profession beneath what a Jewish boy should have."
