How big was Alanis in the 90s? Kevin Smith cast her as G-d in the (somewhat) classic Dogma in 1999. How many times did Eddie Vedder play an almighty deity?
Exactly.

Well (if you believe) Wikipedia, both parents are Catholic and her mother is "ethnic Hungarian", but her mother's maiden name is Feuerstein. Not a very "Hungarian" last name but definitely a name Hungarian Jews might have.
ReplyDeleteBet my money either mother is "part Jewish" or it's one of those Jewish families that 'converted' somewhere. Alanis kind of "looks Jewish" if you ask me.....
Yes, it looks likely that there is Jewish ancestry on her mother's side... But as you see in the profile, we're decisively noncommittal here. "Barely a Jew", if that.
ReplyDeleteWho the hell hasn't heard of NIN?
ReplyDeleteBrief list of other successful '90's artist who were darker than Alanis; Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, The Cranberries and (especially) Alice in Chains. (Seriously, Dirt is easily the bleakest album to every go quadruple platinum, (or regular platinum for that matter)).
i miss all those 90's bands :( there was sooo much talent there

ReplyDeleteP.S. We have no taste in music.
NO! You still don't get it! It's the fact that you wrote and I quote: "But no one knows who the heck Nine Inch Nails were." Everyone knew who Nine Inch Nails were and everyone knows who Nine Inch are for that matter... And no I don't want you to write about someone, but thanks for suggesting it. And finally it's good to see you admit that you have no taste in music, I mean George Gershwin come on, what were guys born old? My parents don't even listen to him.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Gershwin is one of the most important JEWISH musicians in American history. And, I'm willing to bet, infinitely more influential than anyone from NIN.
ReplyDeleteI was just ribbin' ya. ;)
