We weren't gonna do a Christmas profile, but the suggestion by Joe from Scranton was too goo to pass up. Fascinating story about Robert L. May here.

  1. It's a better story than you think, because you see, there's a 2nd Jew involved in creating Rudolph, that of May's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks. He wrote the song about Rudolph that Gene Autry (not a Jew) made famous and which was eventually the centerpiece of the famous Rankin/Bass stop motion Rudolph special that it still shown on TV almost 50 Holiday seasons later.

Marks also wrote "Rockin around the Christmas Tree" and "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas". This year a Facebook site related to my hometown is making a big deal about Marks because he was born there.

By the way, while we're on the subject, was Jules Bass of the Rankin-Bass team (creator of many Holiday stop-motion specials in the 1960s and 70s) Jewish? I have not found anything on him either way, I did find that Arthur Rankin was not Jewish. Thanks !
