She was a big star in the 1980s Soviet Union. This is the first time I hear of any Jewish roots. Other than her patronymic (and there are plenty goyim named Lev, not the least of them Mr. Tolstoy) and the dubious Jewish Sports Hall of Fame membership (isn't it full of Russian non-Jews, like Myshkin and Malkin?), is there any real evidence?
Gee, I'm usually up on gymnasts but I never heard of her. Wonder why?

ReplyDeleteNot going to argue with the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. I haven't found a mistake yet: they only have 4 total hockey people listed... :)
