Profile: Princess Diana

Well, the Kate Middleton obsession has subsided, but she is near the top of our most-read profiles. Princess Di? Doubt she'll make it that high, but we'll see...

Thanks, Liba from New York!

  1. Isn't Prince William Jewish? According to your site, Peter the Great of Russia had Jewish ancestry, and Peter was without question an ancestor of William.

The problem is I'm not sure how legit your claim is that Peter was part Jewish. I can't find an English - language version of that family tree anywhere. It sounds like a made-up claim to me.

  2. Hmmm. Yes, nothing in English. But here is a Russian + French family tree.

And here's a link, Russian, again, to the Slavic encyclopedia.

The problem might be is that the Slavic encyclopedia claims Kurbat to be a Crimean Tatar, as opposed to a Crimean Karaite, which other places claim. However, his grandson is Isaac, which gives the Jewish version a tad more pull.

  3. And... yes. All the Karaite sources seem to copy-and-paste the same text. Switching to "Not a Jew"... Thanks.

  4. Mordka, though, is the Russian diminutive of Mordecai, which seems to support the Karaite theory.
