The perception is that Gould is a Jewish name, where it's really an English variant of Gold. Jewish actor Elliott Gould also changed his name, from Goldstein.

I came across Glenn Gould's name last night while reading about Asperger's Syndrome... never heard of him before. What a coincidence to see him profiled here today!
