Aaron ended up doing pretty well for himself, what with the whole high priest thing and all. Not exactly a bad life. (True, it cost him two of his sons, but that was their fault and couldn't be helped.)
I find it terrible and contemptible (among the many terrible and contemptible things the Old Testament deity does) that so many people were brutally murdered for the crime of bowing to the calf but Aaron, whose idea it was in the first place, got away scott free, being the big dude's relative.
