Profile: Jerry Lewis

Frequent suggester and sometime ombudsman Bruce from Cambridge, IL has been bugging us about a Jerry Lewis profile for ages. Not sure that this is what he had in mind, but better than nothing, right? In theory...

Lewis was also suggested by Sharon from Las Vegas, David from Cleveland, Sterling from Oklahoma(!), and Scott from Minnesota.

Profile: Jesse Eisenberg

Well... this had to be done. Eisenberg was suggested by... many people. Here we go: Whitney from Boston (who asked three times... sorry for the wait, Whitney!), Marty from Winnipeg, JeriAnn from Connecticut, Elayne from NYC, Jason from Vancouver, and Paige from Pittsburgh.

Profile: Tawny Kitaen

Hard to imagine people found this...creature...attractive at one time, but they did.

Anyway, Tawny was suggested by Bill from San Francisco and now we have to stare at this picture all day! Gee, thanks, Bill...

Profile: Hailee Steinfeld

With the Oscars this week, figure it's the right time to profile Hailee. She was suggested by Malcolm from DC, JeriAnn from Connecticut, Neal from Sarasota, and M. from Germany.

Profile: Ed Rendell

Just to be clear, Fast Eddie's record isn't exactly sparkling either. His transgressions however, are mostly of the "said something to someone he shouldn't have" sort, which in the context of murder most foul and willfully wrongful prosecution seems more cute than calamitous.

But don't go polishing up a halo for him or anything. Or, honestly, anyone in that profession. With great power comes great asshole-dom, clearly...

Profile: Taika Waititi

So what will the next 1000 profiles bring? Will we even get to 2000? When will we run out of people to profile? Who knows...

But a Maori Jew is a good place to start.

Profile: George Gershwin

Grand, ain't it? We've officially passed the point where the numbers have any meaning at all to me. 1000? One THOUSAND profiles? You might as well tell me we've written 1 plofgurth, for all my mind can process it.

This is the point where we're supposed to say "and here's to another thousand!" but, honestly, if I'm blogging profile #2000.... Well, let's just say, here's to super powerful Jew-rating computers doing the work for us, K?

Most importantly though, we want to say thanks to all of our wonderful readers, tweeters, linkers, and suggesters (today: Chaim from DC, Marc from Canada, J. from Boones Mill, VA, Benjamin from Canada, Cal from Mesa, AZ, Adam from New Jersey, Ernesto from Argentina, Mike from NYC, Shane from Claremont, NH, and Jeff from New York). If it wasn't for you, we would not have gotten past 100 of these. You're all 15s in our books!

Jews in the News: RIP Len Lesser

Len Lesser: "Hello! Hello?..."
G-d: "Hello, Uncle Leo."

Lesser, who passed away yesterday, was 88.

Profile: John Baker

Here is Baker's grandmother Clara Rotman (on the left) with her sister (or cousin?) Myra Levy, true Jewish Eskimos...

And here's the article about Clara's funeral, which names Baker as her grandson...

One away from 1000!

Profile: Jock Stein

Well, we're closing in on 1000, it's only two away... Who could it be?

Stein was suggested by one of our all-time suggestion champs, Mila from Alexandria.

Profile: Geddy Lee

Other competitors for the title of nerdiest rock band ever include REM (as mentioned in the profile), They Might Be Giants, and Yes (who once wrote an entire 15 minute song about chess, which is, that's bad). But reading that Rolling Stone quote pretty much locked in Rush for me.

Lee was suggested by TS from Toronto (Canada), David from Charlotte, Aaron from New York, Anne from Dallas, Mara from Kansas, David from (he says obviously) Canada, Jedediah from Surrey, BC (yes, more Canada), Samuel from Philadelphia, Sean from Philadelphia, Sam from New York, Jason from Vancouver (Canada again), and Harry form New York.

Profile: Mimi Rogers

What a perfect love story for this Valentine's Day!... Or not.

Tom Cruise is one of our most searched and requested profiles. Mimi Rogers is... not.

Which other 70s/80s classics will we traverse to find Jews? Stay tuned...

Profile: Olive Oyl

One of my greatest joys in life, along with my marriage and the birth of my daughter was the day I discovered Popeye on Boston broadcast television in Spanish. If you think Popeye is bizarre in English, just you wait until you see Popeye, el Marinero. Yo soy que yo soy, indeed.

In any case, we have frequent suggester Joe from Scranton, PA to thank for this mishegas, who suggest Popeye and lead us down the road which eventually dropped us off at Olive Oyl (see here). Not exactly what Joe was hoping for, we know, but it IS kinda his fault, regardless. Thanks Joe!

Profile: Raoul Wallenberg

Thanks to Steve from California for the suggestion and to Valerie from Ontario for pointing out that Wallenberg had Jewish roots.

Profile: Scott Ian

Don't worry, Yakov's parents, he's OK. He didn't get lost in the woods. He didn't find a friendly cottage. He didn't eat all the porridge. OK, he did sleep in the bed. But the rest? Not him. He is fine. He is fine...

In any case, Ian was suggested by Scott from Philadelphia.

Profile: Jay Baruchel

Interestingly, Judd Apatow wanted Jason Segel to star as the lead in "Undeclared", but for some reason FOX vetoed it. Segel settled for playing Carla Gallo's dumb boyfriend.

Baruchel was suggested by Barry from Tennessee.

Profile: Aaron Rodgers

So, the Super Bowl is this Sunday. And I could have profiled some Jewish ex-Packer or Steeler, say Nate Abrams, who was responsible for the creation of the Packers. Or Buckets Goldenberg (Buckets!), a Packer great. Or four-time Super Bowl champ, Steeler Randy Grossman. But instead I'm profiling a goy (but mostly just writing about the Super Bowl). It's Jew or NOT JEW, after all.

Rodgers was suggested by Moishe from La Jolla, Joel from Miami Beach, Fema from Brooklyn, and Sue from NYC.

Profile: Luis de Torres

Sadly, no picture of de Torres exists. I tried to pick out the least warlike person in John Vanderlyn's "Landing of Columbus".

Sorry, our website is down...

Apologies to our readers, but our website is down right now. Our hosting is on the US West coast, so it'll likely be back up at noon EST.

Profile: Ricky Williams

Zev and I were talking about how we had yet to cover one of the great stereotypes: Hebrews and pot. We looked around for a good subject, found no one of particular interest, and tabled the discussion. Not one week later, Ricky Williams was in the news for his new Jewish interests.

Clearly, this was meant to be....

Profile: Mary Hart

Yakov is up on the clock tower with a shotgun, so he has no time to blog this (the shotgun needs cleaning and everything). But he wants to make sure that I note that Miss Hart is about to retire very soon. And I want to note that Miss Hart is from South Dakota... quite possibly the only Jew from South Dakota (queue emailers/commenters).
