Though it sounds better for your story (i.e. the "nazi" part at the end), are we sure that that "flimsy DNA" is Ashkenazi vs. Sephardi? My suspicion about her tiny bit of Jewish ancestry is that it relates to the Chilean part of her heritage and maybe that distant ancestor was a "Marrano" from that region hundreds of years ago.
I can no longer find the article which flat out said it, but her heritage is outlined on Wikipedia: "Jewish (likely correlating to her ethnic Russian or ethnic Slovak admixture, which is also found among Ashkenazi Jews)",
