Here is Baker's grandmother Clara Rotman (on the left) with her sister (or cousin?) Myra Levy, true Jewish Eskimos...

And here's the article about Clara's funeral, which names Baker as her grandson...

One away from 1000!

Well, we're closing in on 1000, it's only two away... Who could it be?

Stein was suggested by one of our all-time suggestion champs, Mila from Alexandria.

Other competitors for the title of nerdiest rock band ever include REM (as mentioned in the profile), They Might Be Giants, and Yes (who once wrote an entire 15 minute song about chess, which is just...wow, that's bad). But reading that Rolling Stone quote pretty much locked in Rush for me.

Lee was suggested by TS from Toronto (Canada), David from Charlotte, Aaron from New York, Anne from Dallas, Mara from Kansas, David from (he says obviously) Canada, Jedediah from Surrey, BC (yes, more Canada), Samuel from Philadelphia, Sean from Philadelphia, Sam from New York, Jason from Vancouver (Canada again), and Harry form New York.

What a perfect love story for this Valentine's Day!... Or not.

Tom Cruise is one of our most searched and requested profiles. Mimi Rogers is... not.

Which other 70s/80s classics will we traverse to find Jews? Stay tuned...

One of my greatest joys in life, along with my marriage and the birth of my daughter was the day I discovered Popeye on Boston broadcast television in Spanish. If you think Popeye is bizarre in English, just you wait until you see Popeye, el Marinero. Yo soy que yo soy, indeed.

In any case, we have frequent suggester Joe from Scranton, PA to thank for this mishegas, who suggest Popeye and lead us down the road which eventually dropped us off at Olive Oyl (see here). Not exactly what Joe was hoping for, we know, but it IS kinda his fault, regardless. Thanks Joe!

Thanks to Steve from California for the suggestion and to Valerie from Ontario for pointing out that Wallenberg had Jewish roots.

Don't worry, Yakov's parents, he's OK. He didn't get lost in the woods. He didn't find a friendly cottage. He didn't eat all the porridge. OK, he did sleep in the bed. But the rest? Not him. He is fine. He is fine...

In any case, Ian was suggested by Scott from Philadelphia.

Interestingly, Judd Apatow wanted Jason Segel to star as the lead in "Undeclared", but for some reason FOX vetoed it. Segel settled for playing Carla Gallo's dumb boyfriend.

Baruchel was suggested by Barry from Tennessee.

Profile: Aaron Rodgers

http://www.jewornotjew.com/profile.jsp?ID=990

So, the Super Bowl is this Sunday. And I could have profiled some Jewish ex-Packer or Steeler, say Nate Abrams, who was responsible for the creation of the Packers. Or Buckets Goldenberg (Buckets!), a Packer great. Or four-time Super Bowl champ, Steeler Randy Grossman. But instead I'm profiling a goy (but mostly just writing about the Super Bowl). It's Jew or NOT JEW, after all.

Rodgers was suggested by Moishe from La Jolla, Joel from Miami Beach, Fema from Brooklyn, and Sue from NYC.

Sadly, no picture of de Torres exists. I tried to pick out the least warlike person in John Vanderlyn's "Landing of Columbus".

Sorry, our website is down...

Apologies to our readers, but our website is down right now. Our hosting is on the US West coast, so it'll likely be back up at noon EST.

Zev and I were talking about how we had yet to cover one of the great stereotypes: Hebrews and pot. We looked around for a good subject, found no one of particular interest, and tabled the discussion. Not one week later, Ricky Williams was in the news for his new Jewish interests.

Clearly, this was meant to be....

Yakov is up on the clock tower with a shotgun, so he has no time to blog this (the shotgun needs cleaning and everything). But he wants to make sure that I note that Miss Hart is about to retire very soon. And I want to note that Miss Hart is from South Dakota... quite possibly the only Jew from South Dakota (queue emailers/commenters).
