Profile: Hillel the Elder

Yakov wants everyone to know that he doesn't agree with my assessment of the Hillel Sandwich, especially when it's made with haroset. I say, balderdash!

Thanks to Shane from Claremont, NH for the suggestion.

  1. I just have to ask: less than a 5 for the K score?

if it's just to avoid the 15 club, I'd recommend going with a 4 for the O score. Yes, he was a rabbi, but he was a rabbi while the Temple still stood, so that put him slightly out of the mainstream of the Jewish practices of his day.

  2. I think it's because of the number of times he upstaged Shammai. Poor Shammai.

  3. We had a big argument of the quality of the sandwich...

But yes, it's pretty much to avoid the 15.

  4. I concur with Zev. Never let a nasty thing like a matzo spoil the goodness of horseradish. And the Talmud reads much worse nowadays than Harry Potter.

  5. Actually, Hillel's sandwich was based on how the Jews used to eat the Passover sacrifice back when the Temple still stood, so... not really his invention
