Profile: Boris Spassky

The seven (at least part) Jewish chess champions are: Wilhelm Steinitz, Emanuel Lasker, Mikhail Botvinnik, Vasily Smyslov, Mikhail Tal, Bobby Fischer (BARF), and Garry Kasparov.

Anatoly Karpov and Vladimir Kramnik are rumored to be at least part Jewish, but those are likely just rumors...

  1. Not true at least about Karpov. I was familiar with one of his relative (cousin) who told he is of 1/4 of Jewish

  2. Bobby Fischer rejected Judaism. He died a Catholic, and is buried in a Catholic cemetary in Iceland. He also wrote to some Jewish encyclopedia in the early 80s and told them to remove him, as he didn't consider himself Jewish.
